1. What makes Books4Niners.com different from other websites? Books4Niners.com is not a bookstore. It is a website where students can buy and sell books to each other, avoiding the bookstore middleman. Students post their books for sale and other students can see them. As long as they are logged in, buyers can see the seller's contact information. This website does not handle books. It is up to the students to contact each other and make the transaction. By buying and selling just between the students, we can all save tons of money.
2. How does this website save me money? Instead of going and buying used books at the bookstore, imagine if you bought them from another student here at UNC Charlotte. From what we have seen, books on this website sell for way cheaper than they do in a bookstore. Consider a used book that should cost 110 dollars at the bookstore. Most likely, another student has that book and wants to sell it. They can go to the bookstore and get around 15 bucks or they can sell it to you, for much more than the bookstore would give them. This way, you get it for a lot cheaper, and they make more money. Both the buyer and the seller will benefit. The idea is simple, but can save you hundreds of dollars each semester.
There's not one! For Charlotte students, this website is completely free to use. Sell as much stuff as you want on here. There are no posting fees or membership costs. Buy and sell for free.
Your classmates. This website was thought of and brought to life by fellow UNC Charlotte students. The founder, Peter Edquist, is a Spanish and International Business major here at UNCC. With the help of a few other 49ers, the dream was made reality. This website is for the students and by the students. This means there is not a big corporation behind this trying to squeeze money out of the student's pockets. Actually, the guys behind this site use it too! They are saving money on books and selling their stuff on here just like you.
5. If it's free for us, who pays for the website? The idea behind this site is to provide free services to UNCC students. Obviously, it costs money to build and maintain a site like this, especially during it's initial stages. The plan is to have the website maintain itself by receiving help from local business who would like to advertise on here. As long as students keep using the website, companies will find it very beneficial to advertise through the Ad Blocks. This money insures that the site will stay free for students.
Easy. You can click here to register and become a member of Books4Niners.com as long as you have a UNCC email account. It is fast, free and easy. Once a member, you will have access to the entire site and be able to take advantage of what it offers. You can start buying and selling your stuff right away!
7. How does the buying and selling work? Visit our How it works section and you will see how easy and convenient this website is.
8. How can I advertise on this website? On every page, there are different Ad Blocks that are available for advertising. These Ad Blocks can show logos, messages, graphics, and can even serve as links to other websites. If you are interested in advertising to thousands of UNC Charlotte students, click here and leave the appropriate information.
9. How can I edit the info for stuff I'm selling? (price, details, etc.) After you have signed in, go to My Books or My Yard Sale, depending on what you want to edit. Here, you will be able to edit details on the stuff you are selling. This will be useful when you want to change the price on something that might not be selling. Also, providing more information under description will help the chances of something being sold.
10. I sold something. Now what? When you sell something, you will want to remove it from the website so that other people will not contact you about it anymore. When you are signed in, click on My Books or My Yard Sale. Under the Delete column, check the item you wish to remove. Then, scroll down and hit delete. This will remove the item from the website.
11. What and how much stuff can I sell? As much as you want! As long as no one abuses their privileges on the website, we want students to be able to sell all of their books and extra stuff they have. For obvious reasons, we can't allow someone to come on here and break the law. Selling illegal material is strictly prohibited and will result in termination of the account, as well as proper notification to the authorities. Members will not be allowed to display illegal content using pictures or description.
12. Can I advertise student events for free? Of course. Please visit our Student Events section where you will be able to post events like concerts, meetings, seminars, rush events, etc. Books4Niners.com will happily promote such events.
13. When was this site started? Books4Niners.com was launched on August 21st, 2006, at 1pm. The site is still quite new, however, loads of students have already benefited from it. Within days of the inauguration, students were sending in emails about how we have needed a website like this for way too long.
This site is designed for the students, therefore, we would love for other students to help us make it better. If you have any ideas or suggestions, feel free to visit our Contact Us page. We are always looking for other students to help us out with the site. Also, the success of this website greatly depends on getting the word out. We encourage all students to tell everyone they can. After all, the more students that know about it, the more students there will be posting stuff for sale and selling. So, tell all of your friends and tell them to tell their friends. You never know, maybe the friend of a friend will have the book you are looking for. It would be great if students would put links to our website in their AIM profiles, MySpace pages, Facebook, etc.
15. How can I change what contact information is available? When you are signed in, click on My Account. You can put a check next to the information that you want other members to be able to see. Remember, only members of this website will be able to see your contact information. Leaving both your email and phone number checked will help other members to contact you when they wish to buy from you. If you do not want one of these items to be seen by others, just uncheck it.
